Bay Area Family Photography in SF and Beyond

Portraits are an investment you’ll treasure for a lifetime. They become works of art displayed proudly in your home—memories frozen in time that grow more meaningful each year. As a Bay Area family photographer, my goal is to capture the real interaction between you and your loved ones. My style is modern, natural, and documentary. While we’ll definitely take a few posed photos, most of the session will be focused on connection, laughter, and the quiet moments that say everything.

Whether you’re searching for a San Francisco family photographer or a Bay Area family photographer to document your story anywhere across the Bay, I strive to make every session simple, fun, and unforgettable.

Client Testimonial:

“I’ve been working with Shefali for about 4 years now, and it’s been an absolute joy! We started with just me and my two boys, who were little rascals at 3 and 5 years old at the time. She’s captured so many wonderful memories since then—including photos with our extended family: grandparents, siblings, the whole crew! Meeting Shefali has been a true gift. She’s more than just our family photographer—she’s a friend. She handles our chaos with patience and a smile, is amazing with my boys, and knows exactly how to put everyone at ease. I always go into our sessions hoping for 4 or 5 good photos—and I end up obsessed with 50 or 60. If you’re looking for someone who’s talented, patient, and feels like family, look no further than Shefali Parekh Photography!”

GOT Questions?

01/
When should I book my family photography session?

I recommend booking your session 2–3 months in advance, especially if you’re hoping for a weekend slot during peak seasons like fall. This gives you plenty of time to plan your outfits, explore location ideas, and make the experience feel intentional rather than rushed.

Fall weekends are the first to book up, so if you’re hoping for family photos in the Bay Area during that time, it’s a good idea to reach out early. That said—if your timeline is tight, I’ll always do my best to accommodate last-minute sessions when I can.

02/
Do you help choose the location for our photos?

Yes! Once you’re booked, I’ll share my exclusive location guide featuring my favorite outdoor settings throughout the Bay Area. Whether you’re drawn to breathtaking golden fields, forested trails, or wide open spaces, I’ll help you choose a backdrop that feels true to your family.

Outdoor session locations typically span across Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties. For those located in Napa, Sonoma, or Solano counties, I offer in-home family sessions—a cozy alternative perfect for newborns or families who want to capture moments in the comfort of their own space.

03/
Where are you based and do travel fees apply?

I’m based in San Francisco (94105) and serve families throughout the greater Bay Area. Travel within a 15-mile radius of 94105 is included, and any location outside of that radius is subject to a travel fee based on distance and accessibility.

As a San Francisco photographer, I know how to work with the city’s unique light, weather, and landscapes. I bring that expertise with me to every session—whether we’re shooting in the hills of the Peninsula or the quiet comfort of your home in wine country.

04/
What makes your approach different?

With over 7 years of experience and hundreds of families photographed, I offer more than just beautiful images—I provide a personalized experience rooted in trust, communication, and storytelling.

From the moment you inquire to the day you receive your gallery, I guide you every step of the way. My process includes a thoughtful welcome guide, styling advice, and location planning—all designed to help you feel confident and cared for. My work has been published and trusted by families year after year, and I pride myself on creating a relaxed environment where genuine connection and emotion can shine.

05/
How do I know if you’re the right photographer for our family?

Choosing the right photographer is personal—it’s not just about the final images, but how you feel during the process. If you’re looking for someone who values connection, captures emotion over perfection, and brings years of hands-on experience, you may find that we’re a great match. Many clients have shared that working with me felt easy, fun, and effortless—something I believe has helped me build a reputation as one of the best family photographers in the Bay Area.

06/
Do you offer traditional family portraits along with candid shots?

Yes! While my style leans toward natural, lifestyle-driven storytelling, I always include a few classic, well-composed portraits during each session—especially when working with extended families or for holiday cards. Think of it as the best of both worlds: you’ll receive heartfelt, candid moments alongside timeless portraits. As a family portrait photographer based in San Francisco, I understand the importance of balancing creativity with the images you know grandma will frame.
